Letter from my Nana

My Nana wrote this about my Dad a long time ago and shared with all of us in 2009. I came accross this the other day and couldn't help but smile and cry at the same time. I have included a picture of my darling Dad from when he was about the age of this letter.

I can only hope my son has the same imagination as my Dad did!

Pop (my Papa's Father) & Dad

Dear Monica, Lauren, Jeri, Becky, and Shannon,

I found this letter to Marzee from me (Bettye) that was written just before Becky was born' Thought you might all get a kick out of reading what a darling little boy your husband, father, brother and uncle was when he was two and a half years old.

Dearest Mom,

I hardly know where to begin---Scott is doing fine once he got over his measles and could go out on Friday. Were we ever glad. But do you, he wasn't so bad to keep in----of course I'd hate to have to do it for very long, but we got along fine, and my patience held up well!!
After being in the house so much, he has been better about staying close to home when he's outside playing----and is that a relief!

He rides his tricycle almost constantly and he carries a long string with him, to start the "motor" . It's a very complicated business---he seems to be copying Pop's power mower. He acts like he is winding the string around something on the front and then leaps back about two feet pulling the string with a jerk. Sometimes, it doesn't start with the first try, but when it does, he jumps on the seat and pedals off like fury!!! Makes a big humming sound as he goes.

I used to spend my time peering out windows to see where he was----now, I peer to see what he is doing cute! Love to watch him play-like.
His lawn mower has a motor, too. And every day when I put him down for his nap, he starts yelling that he's got to go outside to turn the motor off--he "left" it running when he came in for lunch. Today, he informed me, it would burn up if he didn't go turn it off. He is really using his imagination now and playing by himself well.

I'm skipping some about the flowers we planted (arbor roses) and a bit about Sears store.

Now days, Scott wants to know "whatcha doin', Mommy??", over and over and over again.Yester- day, he nearly drove Bob Ziehe wild. Bob said Scott asked ten times what Bob was doing. Bob replied all ten times with "watering the grass", and then Scott wanted to know "why?" Bob ate supper with us last night--Elaine was in Austin---so it seemed like the thing to do!

Scott has picked up quite a few of my expressions lately----he always wants to do something "right this minute", and one day he told me he wanted a sucker and I ignored him----he said

loudly, just like I do, "I mean it!"! Right now he wants to water the steps because they are "dirty". Guess who got them that way?
And last, but not least, he wants to know "who did dat?", whenever he notices anything amiss.

Please let Nonie and Pop read this so I won't have to write this all over again. Thanks.

Love, Bettye and Glenn

My Nana

We lost our sweet Nana (My Dad's mother) this past Monday. She went to be with the Lord. I still feel a sense of shock and disbelief. We had her services this Thursday and Friday. We all miss her very much. Please say a prayer for my precious Papa who has laid his wife to rest exactly 1 week before their 61st wedding anniversary. She will be missed...
